The biggest problem with Atheism.
Atheists believe that the universe was formed out of nothing, that there was once a non-living primordial soup on earth that would evolve into bacteria to fish to land animals and eventually after millions of years through completely unguided processes human beings evolve from African apes on a planet that was positioned at the perfect distance from a star that was also put there by sheer coincidence. Which sustains conditions on this planet such that it is the only planet among the planets surrounding this star that could sustain life. Christians believe in Genesis 1:1. Notice how I started with the word "believe" for both Christians and atheists, because as you might have noticed, atheism has its own Genesis 1:1.
Essentially, atheism posits that life came from non-life, intelligence from non-intelligence order from chaos, everything from nothing. Have scientists ever seen the primordial soup in which all life on earth derived? We see that atheists do have faith to believe in all of this without empirical evidence. Yet it is the theists that don't have sufficient evidence for God. It is as if 2 friends went on an island with no inhabitants and there we find a manor, a beautiful house with a bell that rings exactly every hour. If one friend says to the other "The architect that made this must have been amazing". The other friend asks "Did you see the builders build it?". "Did you see the Architect draw it?". "Then you can't assume there was an architect." The friend asks for an alternative explanation only to be told that the manor with its bells set popped out of nothing. And somehow this position requires less faith to believe? Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,7 in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools. Lets for a moment presume that stuff pops out of nothing and our great grandparents were fish.
If we are living in a purposeless universe run be sheer coincidence, and we are just matter in motion descendant from inorganic soup. What basis do we have for morality? if all that exists is the material world and we don't have souls then your thoughts are just a product of chemical reactions taking place in your brain. so truthfully you don't actually "think" your brain is just a bunch of fizzing chemicals and I happen to fizz like a Christian and other people happen to fizz like atheists. In fact who says we are coming to the correct conclusions anyway, if the brain we use to come to these conclusions is a product of mindless chemical reactions from a universe run by chance, how can you be sure of anything? In this world view there is no right or wrong just chemical reactions. The world renown atheist microbiologist Richard Dawkins famously wrote in his book 'River out of Eden' "There is no right or wrong, just blind pitiless indifference." I am not asserting that atheists cannot be moral, far from it, what I'm asserting is that the atheistic world view has no foundation for loving your neighbor as yourself because weather you love or eat your neighbor it is all a result of chemical reactions that do not care for morality and who says one chemical reaction is bad and another is good. Atheists are forced to be moral relativists saying that morals are decided by a specific culture and objective moral standards don't exists. The problem with this is that when a culture agrees that rape, or child molestation are good things to do. Then the atheists is forced to say that rape isn't objectively evil but a matter of personal or majority opinion. You might say well that's not possible, no culture would ever do that Well the Greko- Roman empire did it, the Canaanites did it and perhaps that's too far from home, how about the slave trade was that objectively wrong because the culture at the time agreed that selling black people was well and good. You see if we leave morals up to the majority opinion of the sons and daughters of Adam you are bound to only get evil as a result. Has the murder of unborn image bearers of God in abortion suddenly become moral simply because our current culture affirms it?
The truth is if you know that some things are evil regardless of what their context or cultural background is, you can't be a consistent atheist, even popular atheists like Christopher Hitchens admits this. Because you would have no foundation to make this assertion because if human matter happens to collide with other human matter in the form of a hug or in the form of a murder, who cares? We are all just matter in motion and matter does what matter does. On the contrary the Christian says God said "No, this off limits regardless of what culture you are in" and that is why God will Judge all the nations according to the same law because he place it in the hearts of all nations. We know some things to be wrong and even if one could explain the cultural context behind child molestation we know that, that will always be wrong.
Romans 2:14 For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them 16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus
